Windbreaks

There are many types of windbreaks. They are discussed in more detail on the Wind Protection Systems page.

Well-designed windbreaks typically reduce fugitive dust to less than one eighth of the unprotected situation. This is because erosion is proportional to windspeed cubed. In other words a pile that was previously losing a ton of dust a month would be down to losing less than 250lb per month!

Industrial Windbreaks are also used for

    • erosion control
    • reduction of wind loads on sensitive components
    • privacy screens
    • debris and garbage collection
    • control of waves and turbulence on ponds
    • snow deflection and control
    • fencing

    Windbreaks

Dust control fence for a coal mine in Northern BC. Fence is 40ft high. Poles are individually guyed to resist wind loads.

    Windbreaks Windbreaks

A windbreak wood-chip dust control system in Richmond BC. The fence is 47ft high in front of the blowers, and 27ft around the lower piles delivered by truck

    Windbreaks

24ft windbreak for combined dust deflection and visual screen with the 8ft near solid lower panel.

    Bahrain

65ft dust control windbreak for a steel pelletizing plant in Bahrain. Poles are spaced at 100ft.
